Please respond the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES:
- Racial tension is the main conflict in Remember the Titans. Boone states, “This is where they fought the Battle of Gettysburg. Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fightin’ the same fight that we’re still fightin’ amongst ourselves today.” History is said to repeat itself and many years have passed since 1971.
How are we still facing similar issues today? Discuss recent examples of conflicts and/or issues that have divided communities.
We are still facing similar issues today because many people feel like different races are getting different treatment. For example: Africans and Americas still have problems today with being treated the same.
- In Coach Boone’s Gettysburg speech, he says, “You listen…and you take a lesson from the dead. If we don’t come together…right now, on this hallowed ground…then we, too, will be destroyed. Just like they were. I don’t care if you like each other or not, but you will respect each other; and maybe…I don’t know, maybe we’ll learn to play this game like men.”
What is Boone’s connotation of respect? Could it have another name? Explain.
He’s Connotation is that everyone is feeling like they shouldn’t be together so they aren’t playing as well as they should. I think that respect should never have another name because when someone says the word respect everyone feels the energy that comes from the word respect.

- IMPACT: 1) Coach has made the team go together so well that even without the coach being there the team called a meeting and they all agreed on an idea. 2) One impact that was really impacting was that one day at lunch all the boys were mixed together not worry about color or race. Then one, white boy comes up to a table and goes to sit down when another white boy says to him that he can’t sit here because he wasn’t on the defensive part of the team.
